Friday Find: Hidden Mickey at Disney's Aulani

Aloha! Just wanted to share a some of the fun Hidden Mickey's that can be found around Disney's Aulani resort. Some are "not so hidden" and some are little more creative.

These first set of photos are some things that were found in our room.

These next set of photos are of things located within the Aulani Resort.

There are a handful of Mickey Mouse shaped food items that you purchase around the Aulani. The shave ice is a favorite. You have to specifically order this size if you want the ears.

Hey, Mickey! It's the Great Halloween Pump-"Cake" Patch

I was at Disney's Grand Grand California Spa & Hotel the other day (even if just to escape the Oct California heat), and was able to check out their Halloween display. Last year they had a very cool Halloween Tree. This year looks like they went for something more whimsical and traditional.

It is all made out of sweet stuff. You can really smell all that sugar! There are pumpkin creations, spiders, and rats, too, in the Halloween scene. If you look closely, you can also see two furry friends trying to find some Halloween treats.

According to the sign, there are 13 hidden Mickey's that are scattered throughout the display. They are hidden in there pretty well and part of some of the elements. You have to look really closely and at everything. Here are two of the easiest to find.

If you have time to visit, check out the Halloween confectionary creation that is located in the lobby of Disney's Grand Californian Hotel & Spa. They also have some Halloween food and drink offerings in the lobby so you can enjoy your visit.

Checking out the Halloween "Tree-t" Cake at Disney's Grand Californian

Last week I was able to walk around Disney's Grand Californian Hotel & Spa and check out the Halloween "Tree-t" Cake

Here are the stats and fun facts.

You can walk all the way around the tree so you can get a look at all the small details. There are critters, creatures and Hidden Mickey's too. Check out some of the other items that represent some Disney movies.

There are really some talented artists, bakers (and magicians) who assembled this seasonal tree that also compliments the theme and aesthetic of the Grand Californian. Even the cage they built around it has a similar shape to be in line with the architecture and decor of the lobby.

Hidden Mickey in the new Tardis design?

I can't help it but when I see 3 circles I just see a Mickey Mouse shape. So a couple weeks when MacSparky and kid #2 were watching the Dr. Who marathon on BBC America, there was a segment about the new Tardis design.

Get an Exclusive tour of Twelfth Doctor PETER CAPALDI's New & Redesigned TARDIS, courtesy of show production designer Michael Pickwoad!

So when the production designer pointed out that this particular decor on the new Tardis design incorporates a "Gallifreyan design", all I could see was 3 circles = Mickey Mouse shape.

You can see how I arrived at my crazy claim, right? (or not).

There are a lot of Who-vian fans who are also Disney fans.  I love a good mash-up between the two. Just look at all these fun tees on Tee Fury. You can find a variety of tees by creative people offering designs celebrating their favorite fandoms.

If you are looking for more hidden Mickey's, check out THIS POST about the ones that you can find in Disney animated movies. If you really want to know all about hidden Mickey's, check out the post and books by Steven M. Barrett, AKA The Hidden Mickey Guy

Not-so-hidden Mickey's in our Aulani Villa

Aloha!

My family joined the Disney Vacation Club (DVC) several years ago. We chose Aulani as our home resort. We love going to Hawaii, we love the Hawaiian culture, people, plus the climate is pretty nice. It is paradise for us with a little Disney on the side.

I'll have more posts about the Aulani in the next coming weeks but I wanted to share some fun "not so hidden Mickey's" in our villa.

This is what is our our bed. It's not quite a full size quilt. It is definitely a great decorative accent. According to the Disney Store, it's referred to as the Aulani Disney Resort & Spa Bed Runner.

This is cushion backing that is on the dining room furniture. It's pretty subtle yet fits in the Hawaiian motif.

There is a rock wall inside the shower stall in the bathroom. Here is a close up. Can you see the hidden Mickey nestled in the rock design?

This picture is also in the bathroom. Did you see the Mickey bubble?

This lamp is in the living room. It looks great and fits into the simple Hawaiian decor. When you turn it on, you see cool surfer Mickey.

Finally, one of my favorites is this Mickey Mouse lamp that sits on the desk inside the bedroom. He's got his ukelele, his kukui necklace and surfboard. You can actually purchase the lamp, too. I see a great Christmas gift that my kids can give to their dad to remember these sweet family Aulani memories.

Halloween Time - Mickey Mouse Style

Happy Halloween!

Finally got around to carving our pumpkins. One of the things that we do is to cut our pumpkin from the bottom. It looks better when your creation sit on the porch. We've found that we just like this method. Next, empty out the pumpkin guts...a favorite chore for some and not so fun for others. It's part of the smell of Halloween traditions.

The tools that help to make for easy carving and decorating are these reliable melon ballers. I have a couple different sizes and played around with the size of the circles. It's pretty easy once you take your melon baller, choose a spot, and just go for it. It goes fast, too.

Once it gets dark and you get a candle in there, it looks pretty cool since the Mickey Mouse heads are backlit.

Wishing you lots of treats on this Halloween!
